This summer camp for youth in grades K-8 aims to empower holistic health and wellness and enhance myriad life and academic skills by promoting a positive future construct -all led by BIPOC peer mentors and qualified adults. Participating youth learn from a wide range of guest teachers about plants, food/body connections, and culture. They will also experience a safe, supportive, respectful, and stimulating community following Indigenous ways. Camp is open to all regardless of ethnicity, tribal affiliation, disability status, or religion/spirituality. Camp runs from from July 15-19, 2024, 9am - 3pm each day. Camp registration is $20 per household (scholarship available), and transportation to the camp site at Northern Lighthouse Church will be provided from two pickup locations. Roots to Rise is a cultural enrichment camp grounded in Indigenous ways for youth in grades K-8. Participants are given tools and space to reflect on and explore their own culture and that of those around them. The camp covers storytelling, rituals, and cultural connections to nature. The lessons teach about how history can be used to understand individuals and the world around them. Participants are guided by the Indigenous values of the 4 Rs, reciprocity, relevance, responsibility, and respect, and practice them daily. The camp runs July 10-14, 2023 from 9am - 3pm each day.
