This Recognition and Remembrance Day will help both descendants of students at the Genoa Indian School and the general public understand the school’s history and how it continues to impact the lives of Native people and communities today, 90 years after the closing of the school. This year's event will feature educational speakers, including one having personally experienced life at a boarding school - James Cadwell (Crow-Creek). Native artist Savannah Berlyn Anderson (Winnebago/Omaha) will host a facilitated learning event about her immersive installation called I HAVE A NAME. The Nebraska State Archeologist and the Director of the Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs will give an update on the ongoing cemetery search. The research center and Genoa Historical Museum will be open, and tours will be offered of the interpretive center. Native crafts and Indian tacos will be sold.
