Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival (Read More)

Music played a pivotal role in connecting homesteaders to each other and the homes they left. By experiencing fiddle traditions, guests have a unique opportunity to connect to this important part of the homestead story. There will be fiddle competitions for juniors and seniors, a picking competition, and an acoustic band competition featuring stringed instruments. There’s also a free workshop. Fiddle music performances include statements about the origins of the pieces. Festival Schedule Saturday, May 25 10 a.m. workshop noon competition Sunday, May 26 noon jam session and buck dancing workshop 1 p.m. performance

This family-friendly three-day festival includes live music and dance on an outdoor stage in addition to firsthand demonstrations of the skills of the past onsite near the Homestead Education Center (woodcarving, playing and making musical instruments, knitting, quilting, lacemaking, Dutch oven cooking, rope making, and blacksmithing). On Saturday and Sunday, visitors can view antique farm equipment that will be displayed and demonstrated throughout the weekend on the historic tallgrass prairie.
