Children will be inspired to write as they learn about the songs and dances of Nebraska birds.

Description

For children, especially (but not limited to) 4th to 6th grade
90-minute workshop
Participant limit: 30

This program offers an exciting multi-media, multi-disciplined program specifically created to incite the imagination and enhance the writing skills of children. This program combines photographic images and discussion of ten Nebraska birds, their songs, a couple dances, small photographs of each bird for participants, and coloring-book pictures of the birds with a number of creative writing activities focused primarily on information and ideas emphasized—size, colors, sounds, action, etc. The writing activities include a number of exercises that emphasize the use of descriptive language and a variety of poetic devices. Students are encouraged to share their work with the class and to revise their efforts to enhance the prose and to create vivid images.
