The story of how UNMC became “UNMC” is really a story of many Nebraskans and their desire to lead the world in providing quality health care education and through that improved patient experience.

Description

If you’re ill and live in the state of the Nebraska, likely one of the first suggestions others will give for a place to go for treatment is “UNMC.” But what if I told you the University of Nebraska Medical Center doesn’t treat patients and its stated mission is to train the health care workforce of tomorrow? Sounds wrong, right?

Most Nebraskans know the University of Nebraska Medical Center but in its 143-year-and-counting history there’ve been some things that have been muddied, and many of the groundbreaking accomplishments forgotten. The story of how UNMC became “UNMC” is really a story of many Nebraskans and their desire to lead the world in providing quality health care education and through that improved patient experience. Join me on a trek through some early healthcare history and how healthcare education changed from being Omaha-centric, to embracing the 500-mile-wide campus that is today’s UNMC.
