Description

Audiences today might most often learn about the scientific discoveries and map-making of the famous expedition, but few may recall that it was a military expedition with a select group of U.S. Army and civilian volunteers under the command of Meriwhether Lewis and William Clark. This program describes what the U.S. Army was like at that time (1804-1806) — its size and organization — and that military discipline was part of the Expedition. In addition, a few episodes highlighted how this military unit interacted with various nations on the Great Plains. Hayes reads from the journals to emphasize that it was a military unit.
