Description

Poetry slams are events where poetry writing and performance are judged by the audience, making for an entertaining way to showcase poetry. They started in the 1980s and spread around the country and the world, appearing consistently in Nebraska since the late 90s. Matt Mason ran a poetry slam in Omaha for 12 years, ran a youth poetry slam festival for 11 years, competed at the National Poetry Slam 5 times and served as Nebraska State Poet from 2019-2024. He has a lot to say on poetry slam’s history and will perform some of the poems he’s used for slams as well as talk about how you can get involved in poetry slam.
