Buffalo Commons Storytelling and Music Festival, Lassos and Legends: Where History Happens and Traditions are Born

June 9, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 9:00 pm CDT

Meet the cowboys, visit the places where history happens and hear the stories from those who experience it. The 26th Annual Buffalo Commons Storytelling and Music Festival is packed with ranching, cowboy and rodeo stories and music. Kick up the dust at cattle operation sites and kick up your heels at a stage show in the Historic Fox Theatre, barbecue dinner cabaret, museum concert, art show, open mic opportunities, poetry sharing, Kids Fest and much, much more!

Events on Friday and on Saturday night require paid tickets. Events on Saturday during the day and on Sunday are free and open to the public.

9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Boots, Broncs & Branding Irons Community Tour $30 advance tickets required

7:30 p.m. – “How the West Has Fun” Evening at the Historic Fox Theater includes Andy Hedges and Brigid and Johnny Reedy $15, $5 tickets required

MUSEUM OF THE HIGH PLAINS – FREE EVENTS

9:00 a.m. The Cowboy Culture, Brandon Bailey

10:30 a.m. The Beating Heart of a Cowboy, Andy Hedges

11:15 a.m. A Proud Western Tradition, Brigid & Johnny Reedy

SEHNERT’S BAKERY – FREE EVENT

12:30 – p.m. Stories, Poetry, Music and Fun – Open Mic, All are welcome to participate.

MCCOOK CITY LIBRARY – FREE EVENT

1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Fest – A Darn Tootin’ Good Time. Ya’ll come on down to the library for some western fun! There will be cowpoke tales, ten-gallon hat making, roping lessons, horseshoeing demonstration, and real cowboy music by Brigid and Johnny Reedy. Don’t miss this event!
