Emma Louise Pound (known as Louise Pound) 1872 – 1958, was a distinguished native Nebraskan who was an advocate for women’s rights and opportunities, an accomplished literary scholar, folklorist, linguist, author, musician, championship athlete in tennis, golf, cycling and basketball, and a University of Nebraska professor of English for 50 years.  Pound devoted her career to making a difference in the of lives of her students and female colleagues, and preserving Nebraska’s native folklore.  Pound’s accomplishments were achieved during a repressive time in history for women, the Victorian Era.  Pound did not let social restrictions stop her, and was a trail blazer who paved the way for equal rights and opportunities for women in higher education, professional career opportunities and in intercollegiate sports, all while going against the norm for the time.  Accompanied by a PowerPoint, this presentation guides audiences through Pound’s extraordinary life.
