Discover how this 200-plus mile trail helped establish the beef and cattle industry in Nebraska.

Description

The Blue River Cattle Trail existed from 1868-1871 and ran along its namesake, the Big Blue River, from the end of the Chisholm Trail in Abilene, Kansas to the Stockyards in Schuyler, Nebraska. Fosler relates the history of how this 200-plus mile trail was foundational in establishing the beef and cattle industry in Nebraska as it brought over 1.5 million Longhorn Cattle from Texas to central Nebraska and played an integral part in post-Civil War reunification efforts between North and South.  Fosler shares details of the project initiated by his father to engage, educate, and enrich Nebraskans with this history and gain state recognition of the trail.
