DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the Americans and the Holocaust traveling exhibition at the Calvin T. Ryan Library on the University of Nebraska Kearney campus\, the 2016 film “Race” will be screened at the World Theatre. \n“Race” explores Jesse Owens’ quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history. His quest thrusts Owens onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics\, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy. \nDr. Rachel Silverman – UNK Kinesiology & Sport Science\, Dr. Lina Homberger-Cordia – sports historian\, and UNK students will discuss themes raised in the film. \nFor more information about the exhibit and other related events\, visit the exhibit website.

DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the Americans and the Holocaust traveling exhibition at the Calvin T. SUMMARY:Cultivating Care in Complex Times: An "Abraham's Bridge" Film Screening and Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:“Abraham’s Bridge” is a film that follows the Tri-Faith Initiative from an initial idea in 2005 to the present day\, with diverse religious communities working together to construct their dream\, confront unanticipated challenges\, and look toward an uncertain future. The film focuses especially on the importance of the Tri-Faith Unity Garden to enhance interreligious cooperation and engagement with the surrounding community on issues of food insecurity. \nA discussion will follow the film. The panelists include: Bonni Leiserowitz\, Unity Garden at Tri-Faith; Madeline St. Clair\, Assistant Director of Basic Needs and Innovation\, UNO; Katherine Storck\, Instructor\, School of Communication\, UNO. The panel will be moderated by Herb Thompson III\, Assistant Professor\, School of Communication\, UNO\, with an introduction from Laura Alexander\, Associate Professor\, Department of Religious Studies\, UNO.

DESCRIPTION:The Gering Civic Plaza Sculpture Project Committee – Crystal Sandberg\, Rita Stinner and Gretchen Peters\, – installed a Littleton Alston sculpture of Nebraska author Willa Cather in Gering to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of American Independence and 50th Anniversary of Nebraska’s Interstate-80 sculptures. \nThis free event helps celebrate the statue’s installation. \nThe movie “O Pioneers” starring Jessica Lange and based on Cather’s book will be shown. Ashley Olson\, Executive Director of the Cather Foundation in Red Cloud and Cather expert\, will be on hand to discuss and answer questions about the movie and to lend depth to the project.
