SUMMARY:Ain’t No Food Like Soul Food: A Hearty & Healthy Cooking Experience
DESCRIPTION:As part of its Voices AMPLIFIED! series\, Omaha Performing Arts is partnering with No More Empty Pots for a virtual cook-along program with a side dish of cultural conversation. Learn to cook creamy southern sweet potato grits with red beans and spinach/kale while Chef Meya Hill and Annette Crowder explore how soul food connects to Black culture\, identity\, tradition\, belonging within families and communities\, and the shared human experience. \nRegistration is required to receive the recipe and link to access the virtual presentation. The suggested ticket price is $10\, but options to pay more or less are available\, including a free ticket for people for whom cost is a barrier. \nMeya Hill is the Lead Culinary Instructor at No More Empty Pots. Chef Meya’s deep connection to soul food\, rooted in her personal experiences cooking with family\, reflects the project’s focus on the traditions and human connections fostered by preparing and sharing meals. \nAnnette Crowder has worked in student affairs\, multicultural advocacy\, and leadership development at Omaha Public Schools\, Creighton University\, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha\, and she serves as an Ambassador for Omaha Performing Arts and emcees Music at Miller Park. \nFor more information\, visit the O-pa Voices AMPLIFIED website.
