SUMMARY:Asset Mapping: Verdigre Style
DESCRIPTION:Asset Mapping: Verdigre Style\nTuesday\, Nov 3\n5:30-6:30 pm\nVerdigre Public Library\nPresented by Nebraska Arts Council \nThis event is part of the SPARK! Places of Innovation exhibition that will run from January 5 – February 13\, 2027\, at the Verdigre Public Library. \nThe story of human history is written in inventions and innovations. People are problem- solvers. Sometimes we invent. More often\, we innovate—we introduce a fresh idea or an invention into use in some way that creates a new way of doing or thinking. \nInvention can happen anywhere and it’s happening right now in small towns across America. Rural Americans are creating new products\, taking risks\, meeting challenges together\, and seizing upon exciting opportunities that change local life and sometimes reach far beyond. \nSpark! Places of Innovation is part of Museum on Main Street\, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and State Humanities Councils nationwide. It is based on an exhibition by the National Museum of American History. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress.

SUMMARY:Nebraska Poets Reading Series: Kelly Madigan
DESCRIPTION:The free monthly Nebraska Poets Reading Series highlights the talent of Nebraska poets and invites discussion with audience members. All events are free online\, but registration is required to receive an event link. Registration links for each poet’s event and additional details about each poet are available on the Nebraska Poetry Society’s website. \nKelly Madigan’s poetry explores the fragile line between memory and mystery\, reverence and inquiry—holding up what others might turn away from. \nKelly Madigan is a poet\, essayist and conservation advocate living in the Loess Hills of western Iowa. She previously resided in Nebraska for over 30 years. Her work has received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts\, and the Distinguished Artist Award from the Nebraska Arts Council. In 2020\, Kelly walked the entire length of the Loess Hills in Iowa in an effort to understand her landscape on foot. In 2013\, she crossed the Nebraska panhandle on foot. Her books include The Edge of Known Things (SFASU Press) and Getting Sober (McGraw-Hill).

SUMMARY:Native American Film Series: One with the Whale
DESCRIPTION:In St. Lawrence\, Alaska\, a remote island in the Bering Sea where hunting whales is a matter of life and death\, a shy Native teen\, Chris Apassingok\, became the youngest person ever to harpoon a whale for his village. His family gets blindsided by thousands of keyboard activists brutally attacking him online—without fully understanding the importance of the hunt to his community’s survival. “One with the Whale” chronicles the obstacles Chris and his family face\, amidst larger currents of food security\, environmental racism\, climate change\, cultural genocide\, and social media. The livelihood of the Apassingoks and their village are threatened as they search for a balance between modernity and a traditional subsistence lifestyle. \nSponsored by Vision Maker Media. \nDetails: https://theross.org/film/nafs-one-with-the-whale/

SUMMARY:What If...? Entrepreneurship Panel - Verdigre
DESCRIPTION:What If…? Entrepreneurship Panel\nTuesday\, Nov. 10\n6:30-8:00 pm\nSponsor: Verdigre Public Library\nLocation: Verdigre Fire Hall\nModerated by Mike Tobias\, Nebraska Public Media\nContact: Katie Hollman\, Verdigre Public Library director – 402-668-2677\, verdigrelibrary@gmail.com \nThis event is part of the SPARK!
