SUMMARY:Roots to Rise Youth Camp
DESCRIPTION:Roots to Rise is a summer identity enrichment camp for students in grades K-8. The camp runs July 6-28 on Mondays\, Wednesdays\, and Thursdays from 9 am to 3 pm. \nRegistration is required. Click here for registration link. The registration deadline for students who need transportation is June 13. Registration is open until June 24 for students not needing transportation\, or until filled. (Note: transportation is only available for current Lincoln Public Schools students\, but any student in the grade range who has their own transportation may register to attend.) \nA central part of multiculturalism is our youth learning to love their own culture\, learn healing relationships through a cultural lens\, and uplifting the cultural community. Roots to Rise is a culture centered program and encourages youth to explore Indigenous culture and their own specific cultural roots as a means for nurturing a positive identity and gaining strength and confidence to carry on their cultural values for their own personal wellness and for strong communities. \nFor more information\, contact Stand In for Nebraska via the email address linked below.

SUMMARY:"On the Inside" Speaker Event: UNO TRAC (Transforming\, Renewing\, Achieving\, and Connecting) a Higher Education in Prison Program
DESCRIPTION:A virtual talk and Q&A with Ms. Peggy Jones and Dr. Steve Langan to discuss On the Inside\, a group show of LGBTQ+ artists who are currently incarcerated. SUMMARY:Reckoning and Reconciliation Summer Study and Discussion Circle - virtual
DESCRIPTION:Many people who attended the Reckoning and Reconciliation on the Great Plains Summit from April 6-8 have expressed a desire to further explore the issues that emerged and to continue the conversations about how we can promote healing and reconciliation. \nTo help facilitate further discussion\, the Center for Great Plains Studies is sponsoring a Summer Study and Discussion Circle. We will be listening to Walter Echo-Hawk’s keynote presentation from April 6 and reading his book\, In the Light of Justice: The Rise of Human Rights in Native America and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Then we will hold several online gatherings to discuss Mr. Echo-Hawk’s ideas and how to apply them in our own communities\, organizations\, and institutions. Margaret Jacobs\, director of the Center for Great Plains Studies and a professor of History will facilitate the Circle. Indigenous activists\, leaders\, legal experts\, and writers will join each of the sessions. \nClick here to register.
