SUMMARY:Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra 2021-2022 Pre-Concert Chats
DESCRIPTION:Hosted and moderated by Genevieve Randall\, Music Director for Nebraska Public Media and host of The Verge and Friday LIVE\, the LSO presents pre-concert chats. Each chat begins with a discussion between Randall and the featured soloists or composers for the evening\, followed by a discussion with LSO Conductor Edward Polochick. \nThe pre-concert chats are designed to help those in attendance get better acquainted with the history and cultural significance of the repertoire being performed later. They provide information about the composer’s life\, historical context of when the music was written\, and relevance of the music to life today. \nThe 20-30 minute chat will be pre-recorded and screened in the Lied Center for Performing Arts’ Steinhart Room at 6:45 p.m. for the LSO concerts on October 15 (An Evening with Mark Markham)\, November 12 (Brandenburg and Becker)\, February 4 (Wherefore Art Though Anton?)\, February 20 (Stravinsky\, Still & White)\, April 22 (Beethoven’s Ninth)\, and May 8 (Renée Fleming in Concert). \n

SUMMARY:Virtual: Faith\, Spirituality\, and Antiracism Community Forum
DESCRIPTION:MORE Omaha event description: \n“Many have questioned faith\, spirituality\, and religion in bearing witness and addressing racism in society. How can we challenge institutions and be open to other views about contemporary issues of the day? We are offering two sessions on spirituality\, antiracism\, and bearing witness. \nMany decades ago\, both Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X made public comments about the scope of religion in the struggle for social justice and civil rights. Both men cited that Sunday morning is the country’s most segregated time. Yet\, many people\, regardless of race\, believe in the same God. How come this religious segregation still exists 60 years after their pronouncements? \nWe will cover two themes in this event: \n1. Religion and Antiracism \n2. Psychology and Anti-racism \nWe are open to how others share their narrative and interpretation of these critical issues of our day. \nA’Jamal Byndon will moderate this event\, with the principal presentation by Rev Dr. Cynthia Ramirez Lindenmeyer. \nWe look forward to his exciting opportunity to discuss racism and religion in a safe space.”
