SUMMARY:Voices Amplified!: Omaha’s Forgotten Century Finale Performance
DESCRIPTION:Experience the story of young Ernie and his Grandpa Apa as they converse\, reminisce\, and share memories about their Black and Latino heritage in Omaha through an original commissioned production created by Peggy Jones\, Kathy Tyree\, Broadway choreographer Ray Mercer and community creative consultants and featuring local actors and visual artists and New York and Omaha-based dancers. \nVoices AMPLIFIED! is a multidisciplinary arts and social justice initiative by Omaha Performing Arts\, to elevate artists from diverse cultures and connect the Omaha community with opportunities for discussion\, reflection and new experiences. The series amplifies the work of local and nationally touring artists and community partners through free events focused on issues of social justice\, including panel discussions\, workshops and performances of music\, dance\, poetry and more.

SUMMARY:Crane River Page to Stage Red Cloud
DESCRIPTION:Crane River Theater is thrilled to bring High School Musical to area libraries! Children will be in awe as this Disney original is transformed into live singing\, dancing\, and acting before their very eyes. Page to Stage shows kids how the characters they read in books can jump from the page to the stage\, and the words can come to life before their eyes. They learn character development to bring their own characters to life. Hosted by Auld Public Library at the Red Cloud Community Center.

SUMMARY:Charting Our Path: Celebrating 50 Years of Black Studies (1971-2021) Traveling Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Charting Our Path: Celebrating 50 Years of Black Studies is an 8-panel traveling exhibit sharing historical snapshots of one of the oldest Black Studies departments in the nation. The exhibit highlights the department’s civil rights origins\, attempts to downgrade the department to a program\, and the mutual engagement between campus and community. The banners share archival materials such as newspaper clippings\, department documents\, and photos chronicling events from the 1969 campus sit-in to the celebration of the “Omaha 54” student activists 52 years later. The history of the Department of Black Studies has been characterized by a constant struggle for survival\, but also by the enduring engagement and support of the Omaha Black community.

SUMMARY:Reckoning and Reconciliation Summer Study and Discussion Circle - virtual
DESCRIPTION:Many people who attended the Reckoning and Reconciliation on the Great Plains Summit from April 6-8 have expressed a desire to further explore the issues that emerged and to continue the conversations about how we can promote healing and reconciliation. \nTo help facilitate further discussion\, the Center for Great Plains Studies is sponsoring a Summer Study and Discussion Circle. We will be listening to Walter Echo-Hawk’s keynote presentation from April 6 and reading his book\, In the Light of Justice: The Rise of Human Rights in Native America and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Then we will hold several online gatherings to discuss Mr. Echo-Hawk’s ideas and how to apply them in our own communities\, organizations\, and institutions. Margaret Jacobs\, director of the Center for Great Plains Studies and a professor of History will facilitate the Circle. Indigenous activists\, leaders\, legal experts\, and writers will join each of the sessions. \nClick here to register.
