SUMMARY:Nebraska Poets Reading Series: Steve Langan
DESCRIPTION:The free monthly Nebraska Poets Reading Series highlights the talent of Nebraska poets and invites discussion with audience members. All events are free online\, but registration is required to receive an event link. Registration links for each poet’s event and additional details about each poet are available on the Nebraska Poetry Society’s website. \nThis reading features modern-day parables that take stock of our society at the turn of the century. \nSteve Langan lived in Omaha for many years and now he lives in Maine. He graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha and the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop\, where he received the James Michener Postgraduate Fellowship. Langan formed Seven Doctors Project (7DP)\, an ongoing creative writing workshop designed for mid-career physicians who were willing to claim job burnout and dissatisfaction\, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2008. He returned to his alma mater in 2019 to help form and lead UNO’s Major in Medical Humanities. He currently teaches classes at Baylor University Medical Humanities. Langan’s poems are in a variety of journals\, including Columbia\, Cutbank\, Diagram\, DoubleTake\, Fence\, Flyway\, MAKE\, Meridian\, Pool\, Shade\, Slope\, Sweet\, Make\, Verse\, and Witness. His books are Freezing\, Notes on Exile & Other Poems\, Meet Me at the Happy Bar\, What It Looks Like\, How It Flies\, and Bedtime Stories (Littoral Books\, 2024)

Brooks Conversations for Change series brings thought leaders from around the world to Omaha to share their experiences around confronting prejudice\, bigotry\, and discrimination to build and strengthen the bridges between differing communities. \nThis third installment of the series features a one-hour conversation between featured guest\, Emmy award winning actress and producer Storm Reid (Euphoria\, The Last of Us\, A Wrinkle in Time\, Missing)\, and Inclusive Communities Executive Director\, Cammy Watkins. \nThe event is free and open to the public\, but tickets are required. Visit the event page for more information and to get tickets. \nAttendees may park in nearby parking structures or on the street. \nEmmy award-winning actress and producer Storm Reid starred in the Sony thriller Missing\, released theatrically before being released on Netflix where it quickly rose to #1 in the film category in many countries. She can be seen in a standout episode of the record-breaking HBO series The Last of Us\, opposite Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal. Her performance on the show earned her an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Reid also stars in Warner Bros’ The Nun 2. She can additionally be seen in the Emmy-winning Sam Levinson and MAX series Euphoria opposite Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney. Reid and her mother\, Robyn Simpson\, launched A Seed & Wings Productions\, an independent multimedia production house rooted in narratives that forge multi-cultural conversations\, entertain\, educate\, and uplift. Their desire is to create authentic storytelling that is impactful\, honest\, and reflects the perspectives of all people. Reid is set to star in the Paramount film Becoming Noble which she is producing under her A Seed & Wings banner. SUMMARY:The Pawnee People of Butler County Nebraska
DESCRIPTION:This event is the first of a series of four “History Comes Alive in 2025” events sponsored by the Butler County Historical Society in partnership with people across the county. \nThe original occupants of what would become Butler County were the Pawnee People. To truly understand their culture\, the BCHS is bringing in experts. We will be honored to have Matt Reed of Pawnee\, Oklahoma\, the historic preservation officer for the Pawnee People; Broc Anderson\, the Director of Historic Sites for the Nebraska State Historical Society; Nancy Carlson is an archeologists and works with the Genoa Indian School. These three people will discuss the history and culture of the Pawnee. Artifacts donated to the Depot Museum in the early ‘70s by Alfred Tichacek will be on display. \nThis is a free event and a free bottle of water and a kolache will be available for attendees. This evening program will be filmed and put on the BCHS YouTube Channel. The Event Center is offering an open bar for after the program\, and people are welcome to stay and visit with each other and the speakers. \nMatt Reed is currently the Trical HIstorical Preservation Officer for the Pawnee Nation in Pawnee\, Oklahoma. Matt attended Oklahoma State University where the graduated in 1996 with a B.A. in History and in 1998 with an M.A. in Applied History. \nNancy Carlson has a master’s degree in anthropology/archaeology.
