SUMMARY:22nd Annual Sidney Gold Rush Days
DESCRIPTION:Sidney Gold Rush Days is a family-oriented outdoor festival. It is held in Legion Park\, Sidney\, Nebraska\, during the second weekend of June. The festival emphasizes the history of the Sidney to Deadwood Gold Rush Trail in the late 1870’s. Lots of activities are provided for children. Activities include free entertainment\, wagon rides\, hands-on historical activities\, craft projects\, and much more. Plus\, lots of food and merchandise vendors. \nThe event will include living history campsites\, demonstrations\, and educational talks by reenactors with Buffalo Soldiers of the American West on the Ninth and Tenth United States Cavalry regiments made up of African-Americans. \nMany other presentations and performances will take place throughout the festival. DESCRIPTION:The 29th Annual Buffalo Commons Storytelling and Music Festival is packed with opportunities to laugh\, have fun\, learn and remember. Journey through the dusty trails\, starlit nights\, and campfire tales of the American cowboy with nationally-renowned cowboy storytellers and musicians. Their gripping tales and raw\, authentic songs from the trail is the ultimate tribute to the Grit of the West. A guest visual artist will open your heart and stimulate your perceptions as you follow his life’s journey through his photography\, art and stories. A bus tour will take you to a site where ordinary Nebraskans had an extraordinary impact on history. Festival 2026 will be one to love\, from the Historic Fox Theatre stage show\, dinner cabaret\, historical tour and venues\, art shows\, museum melodies and memories\, open mic opportunities\, poetry sharing\, Kids Fest and more! \nEvents take place throughout McCook. Some events are free\, and some require ticket purchase. For full details\, visit the festival website. \nFeatured Cowboy Storytellers\, Poets and Musicians: Andy Hedges and Dom Flemons \nDom Flemons is known as “The American Songster®” since his repertoire covers over one hundred years of American roots music. Flemons is a folk musician\, black country artist\, songwriter\, multi-instrumentalist\, music scholar\, historian\, actor\, slam poet\, record collector\, curator\, podcaster\, cultural commentator\, influencer\, and the creator\, host\, and producer of the American Songster Radio Show on WSM in Nashville\, TN. He is considered an expert player on the banjo\, guitar\, harmonica\, jug\, percussion\, quills\, fife and rhythm bones. \nSongster\, reciter\, storyteller\, guitarist\, and collector of cowboy songs and poems\, Andy Hedges fell in love with traditional music by listening to his father’s cassettes of cowboy songs. Andy’s vast and varied repertoire includes classic cowboy poetry recitations\, obscure cowboy songs\, dust bowl ballads\, and blues. He also hosts a podcast\, Cowboy Crossroads.  \nFeatured Artist: Wesaam Al-Badry \nAt the age of eleven\, artist and photographer Wesaam Al-Badry’s family fled his home country of Iraq at the onset of the Gulf War. Before relocating to Lincoln\, the family spent four years in a refugee camp in Saudi Arabia where he first experimented with a camera. Wesaam began documenting what was happening around him to help process his experiences. That experience has sculpted much of his work\, which focuses on capturing the human struggle. Believing that he could help others by telling their stories through his work encouraging them to see their beauty and begin a process of healing.

Students\, minors and others for whom the registration fee is prohibitive may request a free membership. \nImagery and Imagination: For the Love of Objects \nWhat do your cherished objects reveal? Explore imagery and imagination as we write about the objects that carry memory\, meaning\, and mystery in our lives. \nHADARA BAR-NADAV is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry\, the Lucille Medwick Award from the Poetry Society of America\, a fellowship from the Poetry Foundation\, and other honors. She is the author of five books of poetry\, most recently The Animal Is Chemical (Four Way Books\, 2024)\, awarded the Levis Prize in Poetry\, selected by Jericho Brown. SUMMARY:The Faces of Rushmore
DESCRIPTION:July 3 and 4 will be jam-packed with events in Seward\, Nebraska’s official Fourth of July City. \nEvents funded through a Humanities Nebraska grant include the following: \nFour actors will represent the “Faces of Rushmore” – George Washington\, Thomas Jefferson\, Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln – for the USA250 celebration at the Nebraska National Guard Museum in Seward “Nebraska’s Fourth of July City” \nFriday\, July 3\, 2026:\n10am – Presidents & Generals Leadership Forum\n2 pm – Chautauqua style presentations from the actors\n7 pm – Concert: Celebrating the USA – 250 “One Nation – Many Stories” – Seward High School auditorium. 43rd Army Band with live presentations by Presidents of Rushmore—Washington\, Jefferson\, Lincoln\, Roosevelt. \nSaturday\, July 4\, 2026:\n10am and 1pm – “Meet the presidents” \nMultiple Humanities Nebraska Speakers Bureau speakers will also be a part of Seward’s USA 250 celebration.
