Students\, minors and others for whom the registration fee is prohibitive may request a free membership. \nImagery and Imagination: For the Love of Objects \nWhat do your cherished objects reveal? Explore imagery and imagination as we write about the objects that carry memory\, meaning\, and mystery in our lives. \nHADARA BAR-NADAV is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry\, the Lucille Medwick Award from the Poetry Society of America\, a fellowship from the Poetry Foundation\, and other honors. She is the author of five books of poetry\, most recently The Animal Is Chemical (Four Way Books\, 2024)\, awarded the Levis Prize in Poetry\, selected by Jericho Brown. Her other books are The New Nudity (Saturnalia Books\, 2017); Lullaby (with Exit Sign) (Saturnalia Books\, 2013)\, awarded the Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize; The Frame Called Ruin (New Issues\, 2012)\, Editor’s Selection/Runner Up for the Green Rose Prize; and A Glass of Milk to Kiss Goodnight (Margie/Intuit House\, 2007)\, awarded the Margie Book Prize. She is also the author of two chapbooks\, Fountain and Furnace (Tupelo Press\, 2015)\, awarded the Sunken Garden Poetry Prize\, and Show Me Yours (Laurel Review/Green Tower Press 2010)\, awarded the Midwest Poets Series Prize.

DESCRIPTION:Homestead National Historical Park is hosting a full weekend of free activities\, demonstrations\, and performances that allow visitors to explore how the ideals and hopes of the American Revolution continued through the era of the Homestead Act\, extending into the 1980s and beyond. \nHomestead National Historical Park will be celebrating America’s 250th birthday with expanding demonstrations broken down by decades and a special Junior Ranger activity to explore it all. Through hands-on experiences and engaging presentations\, visitors can discover how the ideals of the nation’s founding continued through the Homestead Act and into the lives of homesteaders across generations. This year’s stage presentations will feature music\, dance\, and living history performances that share cultural traditions and personal stories connected to the homesteading experience and the broader American story. \nSaturday\, June 27 \n10 a.m.- 4 p.m.  Traditional craft demonstrations and antique farming demonstrations\nNoon  The Bloomer Costume: Dress Reform and Women’s Freedom\, Rayma Volkmer\n1 p.m.  Acapella Men’s Choir\, Homestead Harmonizers\n2 p.m.  Wichita War Dancer\, Greg Victors\n3 p.m.  Czech Band\, Kenny Janak Orchestra \nSunday\, June 28 \n10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Traditional craft demonstrations and antique farming demonstrations\nNoon  Dulcimer Music\, Courtland Opry House Dulcimer Players\n1 p.m.  Musical Review \, Beatrice Community Players\n2 p.m. Musical Patriotic Panoramas\, Donna Gunn\n3 p.m. Abraham Lincoln Living Historian\, Fritz Klein \nKlein\, the event’s keynote presenter\, has been featured in multiple Abraham Lincoln documentaries and will share how Abraham Lincoln connected the Homestead Act to the founding principles of the United States. \nAdditional activities will take place throughout the weekend\, including opportunities for visitors of all ages to participate in interactive demonstrations and explore the park’s rich history. \nThe site is fee-free year-round. DESCRIPTION:The Gering Civic Plaza Sculpture Project Committee – Crystal Sandberg\, Rita Stinner and Gretchen Peters\, – installed a Littleton Alston sculpture of Nebraska author Willa Cather in Gering to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of American Independence and 50th Anniversary of Nebraska’s Interstate-80 sculptures. \nThis free event helps celebrate the statue’s installation. \nThe movie “O Pioneers” starring Jessica Lange and based on Cather’s book will be shown. DESCRIPTION:Page to Stage focuses on taking a well-known storybook and bringing it to life\, allowing children the opportunity to see characters jump from the page to the stage.  Nationally-acclaimed actors from Crane River Theater’s upcoming production of “Disney’s Frozen the Musical” will read\, perform\, and interact with students.

DESCRIPTION:The free monthly Nebraska Poets Reading Series highlights the talent of Nebraska poets and invites discussion with audience members. All events are free online\, but registration is required to receive an event link. Registration links for each poet’s event and additional details about each poet are available on the Nebraska Poetry Society’s website. \n\nJudy Brackett Crowe’s poetry brings landscapes and intimate moments to life with compassion\, clarity\, and wonder. \n\nJudy Brackett Crowe\, born in Fremont\, Nebraska\, has lived in the California foothills of the northern Sierra Nevada for many years. Her poems have appeared in Oberon\, Fish Anthology\, Epoch\, The Maine Review\, The MacGuffin\, Commonweal\, Cloudbank\, Subtropics\, and elsewhere. She has taught English and creative writing at Sierra College and is a longtime member of the Community of Writers. Her chapbook\, Flat Water: Nebraska Poems\, was published by Finishing Line Press. Her poetry book\, The Watching Sky\, was published by Cornerstone Press in 2024 and received the Nebraska Book Award in Poetry for 2025.
