SUMMARY:In Search of the Signers Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:On July 4\, 1776\, the Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence. Collectors of early United States history long pursued a complete set of signatures of the 56 men who boldly signed the document. Omaha’s first real estate agent\, Byron Reed\, assembled one of the nation’s most important collections of coinage and manuscripts. Reed also sought a signature from each signer\, and today\, the Byron Reed Collection includes documents related to 49 of the 56 signers. \nThe Durham Museum is proud to preserve and feature it in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States. In Search of the Signers includes original letters\, receipts and other documents from the Byron Reed Collection tied to the Declaration’s signers\, as well as a reproduction of John Trumbull’s iconic painting\, “Declaration of Independence.” \nThe Durham Museum is open Tuesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.\, Wednesday – Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday noon – 4 p.m.\, – visit museum website to confirm hours. \nAdmission: Adults: $17*\, Seniors (62+): $14*\, Military/Veteran: $14*\, Children (ages 3 – 12): $10*\n*PLUS TAX\nMembers & children 2 years and under FREE

SUMMARY:Nebraska Poets Reading Series: Kelly Madigan
DESCRIPTION:The free monthly Nebraska Poets Reading Series highlights the talent of Nebraska poets and invites discussion with audience members. All events are free online\, but registration is required to receive an event link. Registration links for each poet’s event and additional details about each poet are available on the Nebraska Poetry Society’s website. \nKelly Madigan’s poetry explores the fragile line between memory and mystery\, reverence and inquiry—holding up what others might turn away from. \nKelly Madigan is a poet\, essayist and conservation advocate living in the Loess Hills of western Iowa. She previously resided in Nebraska for over 30 years. Her work has received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts\, and the Distinguished Artist Award from the Nebraska Arts Council. In 2020\, Kelly walked the entire length of the Loess Hills in Iowa in an effort to understand her landscape on foot. In 2013\, she crossed the Nebraska panhandle on foot. Her books include The Edge of Known Things (SFASU Press) and Getting Sober (McGraw-Hill).

SUMMARY:Nebraska Poetry Society Workshop: Joanne Godley
DESCRIPTION:The Nebraska Poetry Society is offering monthly Saturday morning online poetry workshops. Registration is required\, and registration information may be found on the Nebraska Poetry Society webpage. Free with annual membership; nominal fee for non-members. Students\, minors and others for whom the registration fee is prohibitive may request a free membership. \nParticipants will explore how poetry can respond to real events\, honor lived experience\, and give shape to what must be remembered. Writers will leave with new insight into documentary poetry and fresh material of their own. \nJoanne Godley is a thrice-nominated Pushcart and Best-of-Net poet\, writer\, and recent MFA graduate from Pacific University. She is a retired physician and public health specialist\, and lives in San Miguel de Allende\, Mexico. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Crab Orchard Review\, Decolonial Passage\, The Kenyon Review Online\, among others. She is an Anaphora Arts Fellow in poetry and fiction. How the Black Panthers Fell From the Sky\, is a memoir-in-verse and Godley’s first poetry collection. It won the Naomi Long Madgett award for 2025 and has just been published by Broadside Lotus Press.

DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for the Tri-Faith Initiative’s 2026 Religious Equity Seminar\, which will provide an understanding of religious equity\, diversity\, and inclusion issues surrounding religion in America through historical\, cultural\, and structural analysis. The sessions take place from 6:30 – 8 p.m. every other week on Mondays and Wednesdays from October 12 to December 9. Click here for more information\, or to register. Registration deadline is the first day of class\, October 12. \nThe Religious Equity Seminar is intended for community leaders and members who want to build genuinely inclusive spaces\, whether in workplaces\, congregations\, schools\, or civic organizations. This includes nonprofit staff\, educators\, faith leaders\, HR professionals\, and engaged community members who regularly interact with religiously diverse populations but may lack a shared historical framework for understanding how religious bias forms and persists. This course attempts to lay plain the origins of the tropes\, stereotypes and deep-seated narratives that have fueled negative attitudes toward various religious communities for millennia – and which continue to give even the most well-intentioned people faulty understandings that foster exclusivity instead of inclusivity. This seminar gives participants concrete historical grounding and practical tools\, like the Five B Framework and the Bridge-Building Model\, to translate goodwill into informed\, actionable behavior in their own spheres of influence. This course attempts to lay plain the origins of the tropes\, stereotypes and deep-seated narratives that have fueled negative attitudes toward various religious communities for millennia – and which continue to give even the most well-intentioned people faulty understandings that foster exclusivity instead of inclusivity. This seminar gives participants concrete historical grounding and practical tools\, like the Five B Framework and the Bridge-Building Model\, to translate goodwill into informed\, actionable behavior in their own spheres of influence. DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for the Tri-Faith Initiative’s 2026 Religious Equity Seminar\, which will provide an understanding of religious equity\, diversity\, and inclusion issues surrounding religion in America through historical\, cultural\, and structural analysis.
