DESCRIPTION:Big Elk was chief of the Omaha Tribe during the 1800s. As the expanding U.S. threatened First Peoples\, he sought ways to protect his tribe and their culture from obliteration. He created alliances and attempted to prepare for a future that he thought depended on a closer relationship with the U.S. \nChief Big Elk will be presented by his great-great-great-great-great-grandson\, Taylor Keen. \nAudience members will be able to ask questions first of Chief Big Elk and then of Taylor Keen.

DESCRIPTION:Curators Sarah Minshew and Russanne Hoff will take visitors on a tour of the Hastings Museum highlighting items with problematic legacy. Participants will be invited to think about the ethics of objects that are on display\, multiple viewpoints of having these items on display\, and the difficult decisions museums make every day about preservation\, representation\, and education. \nDue to the sensitive subject matter\, this is a 21+ event.
