NEH Funding Update

House Appropriations supports National Endowment funding

The House Appropriations Committee has approved a bill providing $145 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in FY 2018. State humanities councils like Humanities
Nebraska receive a significant portion of this funding.

This is a direct result of the continuing outreach and support of citizens like you. From all across the nation, U.S. representatives and senators have heard many examples of how councils like Humanities Nebraska are enriching lives and strengthening the educational, cultural, and civic life of our nation.

While the approved funding is a $4.8 million reduction (-3.2%) from Fiscal Year 2017 levels, this spending bill indicates strong bipartisan support for public humanities work across the country, including Nebraska.

The appropriations process for FY 2018 is still in its early stages, and NEH funding faces additional hurdles in the House and the Senate. To stay informed of significant developments as they occur, make sure you receive our weekly emails. Submit your email address to
