2012-2013 – Journey Stories

This compelling Smithsonian exhibition shows how our evolving mobility changed a young nation and how transportation made us grow. The accounts of travelers themselves express the hopes and promises of fresh starts, the grim realities of forced migrations and difficult journeys, and the thrills of personal travel.

Journey Stories” visited six Nebraska communities between 2012 and early 2013: Kearney, North Platte, Cozad, Fort Calhoun, Madison, and Alliance. The exhibit was also briefly on display at the State Capitol in Lincoln.

“Journey Stories” was made possible in Nebraska with support from Union Pacific, Nebraska Cultural Endowment; State of Nebraska; Nebraska Rural Radio Network—KRVN, KTIC, and KNEB; Brown Transfer Company; and the “We the People” initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
